OVER THE RAINBOW BRIDGE - PORT RENFREW / LK COW / MARCH 25, 2026
Su Casa Rescue
Today a deceased pup sighted on the Pacific Marine Highway between Lake Cowichan and Port Renfrew. I asked for confirmation if this pup had been recovered or recovery was required. The answer was unknown so I asked for the pic to be sent to me as well as any other details that would assist in the recovery.
As soon as I got home from work I headed back out to go search and recover the reported pup.
It took a bit to find him (with the help of folks in a passing truck who had had eyes on him earlier) but he was found, I wrapped him in a fleece blanket and placed him in my truck.
This boy was in really rough shape. Extremely matted all the way down to his feet, terribly long nails. I cannot imagine the pain he felt simply to walk
He was a brown/gold in tact medium sized doodle, no microchip or tattoo. His injuries included a broken jaw, dislocated or broken leg to name a few. It is unknown how he got to be out there all alone and how he sustained these tragic injuries.
Not being neutered or having any identifiers makes it difficult to find answers so if anyone has any information that could lead to identifying him we'd really appreciate it. He deserved so much more in life.
Arrangements for private cremation are being made with Warmland Animal Clinic. They were fantastic today. I stopped as I was heading out to let them know what I was doing and they stayed there til I got back (at least a 1/2 hour after closing) to make sure that he was taken care of.
Thank you Patty, Carley and Sara
From this point forward this precious soul will be treated with dignity and respect
I have named him Rusty
RIP sweet boy, you deserved so much better
